CUTTING THE RIBBON

Approximately 50 people attended the "ribbon cutting" and transfer of ownership at the New Park Shelter on Thursday, Jun 9th. Thanks to all the Lions, Volunteers, Cities of St. Cloud/Waite Park and all the Area Businesses that made the New Lions Park Shelter a possibility.

(Top) Lion Rand Schaper, Lion Charlie Lindt, SC Council President Carolyn Garven and Park Director Prentice Foster watch SC Mayor John Ellenbecker "cut the ribbon" . (Bottom) Attendees listen to Lions Charlie Lindt and Jim Muellenbach's presentation.

NEIGHBORHOOD CELEBRATES NEW SHELTER:

The Anguishire Meadows Community (adjacent to the Park Shelter) and their invited guests held a picnic at the New Park Shelter on Sat, Jun 4th. In addition to a wonderful "potluck" meal, they presented the Lions with a check in the amount of $560 which they had accumulated with a collection among themselves in appreciation for the Lions project. They asked that the money be used for "Lions' Park Amenities" at the Shelter. Will do!

It was a rainy day, and the design of the shelter worked great! The Overhead Doors let in lots of light...and kept the rain out. We even used the white panels of the door to show a short presentation of photos taken during the construction.

(Top)Attendees enjoy potluck picnic provide by the Angushire Meadows Homeowners.(Bottom) Lions presented with check from Angushire Meadows Homeowners Association.

LIONS SELECTED FOR MAYOR'S "HIGH FIVE" AWARD:

Mayor John Ellenbecker selected the New Lions Park Shelter for his "Mayor's High Five Award" "giving" to the Community. This award goes to a special individual (Lion Charlie Lindt (PP/MJ)), organization (St. Cloud Lions & Waite Park '97 Lions) or business (Many listed below) for Extraordinary Service. The Award will be presented on Thursday evening (7 pm), June 23rd, 2005 at the WWW Festival Opening Ceremony & Lemonade Concert on the campus of St. Cloud University. All Lions should plan on attending.

A special "thank you" to Lion Rand Schaper. In addition to his great design and construction co-ordination, Rand sent in the nomination!

ONE OF EDDIE'S BEST!

Lord, help me watch the words I say,and keep them short and sweet
for I don't know from day to day, which ones I'll have to eat.
We thank you Lord for this food from your bounty.
May it be a blessing to us, So that we can be a blessing to others.
Oh give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, and his mercy endures forever.

WHY BE A LION?

It's not for money, it's not for fame, It's not for any personal gain
It's just for love of fellow man. It's just to lend a helping hand
It's not for medals worn with pride. It's for the feeling deep inside
It's that reward down in your heart. It's the feeling that you've been a part
Of helping others, is a sign, That makes you an effective Lion

Nearly 1.4 million Lions members in 193 countries and geographic areas answer the needs that challenge the communities of the world. Lions tackle tough problems like blindness, drug abuse prevention and diabetes awareness. Lions members?men and women?provide immediate and sustained relief in time of disaster and offer long-term assistance to those in need. Lions collect over 5.5 million pairs of recycled eyeglasses for distribution in developing countries and treat millions of people to prevent river blindness.

    COMMUNITY LEADERS

Lions improve the quality of life in their local communities by building parks, supporting hospitals and establishing water treatment programs. For 85 years, whenever there is a need at home or around the world, Lions members are there to help?WE SERVE
